This backrest is clearly a high-quality product, just like the one I previously purchased for my Yamaha RSV. It’s well made and feels solid and durable. Nearly every aspect of this purchase was excellent, with the exception of the installation.

The backrest was not a simple bolt-on installation. I had to take the pillion seat to an upholsterer, as the install required removing the seat cover, perforating both the foam and the cover, drilling holes into the molded plastic base, and then reinstalling the cover. This added an extra $75 to the overall cost.

Utopia makes fantastic products, and I do recommend them. That said, they really need to develop a more straightforward installation solution for BMW GSA models.
